Sustainability
As a leader in the packaging industry, Stanpac recognizes our responsibility to minimize waste and reduce our environmental impact to improve the state of the environment for future generations.
We are committed to continuously re-evaluating our processes and procedures to work towards more sustainable solutions, below are a few of the improvements we’ve implemented to work towards that commitment.
Transportation
- Transitioning from truck to rail for all paperboard shipments
- Upgrading our fleet to fuel-efficient trucks
- Converting all forklifts to electric
- Streamlining material movement within our facilities for greater efficiency
Facilities
- Installing energy-efficient lighting with occupancy sensors
- Replacing compressed air systems with regenerative blowers where possible
- Adding power conditioning equipment to optimize energy usage
- Eliminating hazardous chemicals in our cleaning supplies
- Factoring energy efficiency into every capital equipment decision
Products
- Reducing the polyethylene coating on our ice cream pint cups from ½ x ¾ to ½ x ½
- Transitioning our 3oz, 3.5oz, 4oz, and 8oz ice cream lids from plastic to fully paper based
- Introducing our Bio PBS paper hot cup line — a compostable option made with up to 30% post-consumer fiber
- Developing a paper lid for our 48oz, 56oz, and 64oz non round packaging
- Offering ice cream packaging with up to 35% post-consumer recycled fiber
- Offering Dispersion Barrier Coating (DBC), a sustainable alternative to polyethylene coating for our ice cream packaging
- Eliminating leaded inks from our glass decorating division

Ice Cream & Food Service Packaging
Stanpac chooses paper for many of our packaging products. Paper is a renewable resource that can also be recycled in areas where programs exist. A major raw material in our paperboard is sawdust sourced from the lumber industry. Using this by-product enhances the sustainability of our products.
Our paperboard and other controlled sources comes from companies that are SFI® (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) and FSC™(FSC-C198113) (Forest Stewardship Council™) certified. These programs promote sustainable forest management to help strengthen forest practices in North America and promote responsible sourcing globally.
Fluid Milk Packaging
Stanpac offers refillable glass bottles ranging from 8oz to 64oz. Glass is the trusted and proven packaging for health, taste and the environment. It is also the only widely-used food packaging granted the FDA status of “GRAS” (generally recognized as safe) – the highest standard. Our refillable glass milk bottles take that a step further. Reusing a bottle over and over again saves raw materials and energy. When a bottle is taken out of service it can be recycled and made back into a new container and the cycle begins again.
Food Safety
Allergen and Flavor Mix Detection
Preventing a mislabeled or mixed product is critical. We have developed systems processes and state of the art equipment that examines every product that we make to ensure that the package and the carton that it goes in is what it is supposed to be. We have been told by our customers that they have never seen as verification system as good as ours. That being said we continue to investigate new technology that can enhance our food safety systems. We are certified under the SQF level 2 (Safe Quality Foods) program that looks at every component of our business from order entry to art, through production and shipping. This process insures that everything that we do will result in a safe product for the consumer.
Tamper Evident Solutions
Stanpac is a leader in the development and manufacturing of tamper evident closures for the dairy industry with 7 patents in 23 countries and several patents pending. Food safety is important to dairy’s and consumers. Our SecurTec and Tec products are made from LLDPE (linear low density polyethylene) This material is perfect for refrigerated and frozen products and its characteristics enable the tamper evident features performance.
Social Responsibility
We feel that it is important to be a part of our communities and help out where we can. We help people and organizations in the communities where we live and work. Many individuals in our company are also involved in the community with great organizations giving their time and resources.
